Emperor Contest Rules

1. Introduction

BANNED FEATURES

Killing traders, etc.: Blocking the path of land traders to the exit point causes them to disappear instantaneously, so new traders get respawned sooner. A similar technique can be used with other walkers such as hunters, emissaries or cart pushers.

Replay mission feature: When you get the victory screen select 'Continue building this city' then choose 'Replay Mission'. This will reload the city at a point that represents the city with all victory conditions met, but at the starting year of the mission. Remove one of the victory conditions and play on as you like.

Modifying files: No files pertaining to the game may be modified with external utilities in order to inluence gameplay. Also renaming or copying files for this purpose is illegal.

Earthquake avoidance: When you save and reload a map right after a quake has started, the quake will be gone. This may also work with other disasters, such as floods.

Stalling an invasion: Box in the enemy army using the free wall feature, which allows you to build near enemy troops. When walled in the invaders will remain frozen and be killed by guards, chariots, or crossbowmen. Without the free wall feature stalling is much more difficult, but not impossible.

FEATURES WITH A LIMITATION

Requests: The number of requests or demands a player may make to any city is limited to one per month. Requests or demands can be made only for goods or food the city sells, military assistance, cash, or animals.

Zodiac Festival bonus: By choosing the zodiac animal the bonus year can be manipulated. Note that copying a file between different emperor directories is banned, so you cannot change the zodiac animal of your emperor during a mission.

PERMITTED FEATURES

Free roads: Place one tile of plain road on the map, drag a grand way over it, hold the mouse button, move it around until it changes into two depressed sandy coloured tiles in the desired orientation, then release the mouse button. The procedure can be repeated at road ends and corners.

Free roads, gardens, walls, etc.: Drag out a section of road. Before releasing the mouse button, hit the escape key. In the exit game dialog, click "no" after releasing the mouse button. The cursor will still be the road building cursor. Left click to build another road tile over allready existing road. The same technique can be used to build gardens, irrigation ditches, walls, and for deleting things.

Prey/predator management:
Placing objects on or around an animal habitat or spawning tile to limit or
prevent their movement. Predators can also be kept in control by towers, soldiers or watch towers.

Free coverage: If you build for instance a fountain, wait until the water carrier has been spawned, and hit undo, the houses passed will still have water coverage. This works with a great number of buildings.

Invasion point blocking: If there is no free path between an invasion point and the entry/exit point, the invasion will occur elsewhere. If all invasion points are blocked, the invasion occurs at the exit or entry point.

Invasion point manipulation: When an invasion comes at the wrong point it may help to save the game just prior to the invasion and reload until the invasion comes at the required point. The same technique may also work with other random events, such as the type of tribute required by an overlord, or the appearance of a hero once your city is worthy.

Price manipulation: Prices of goods can be manipulated by setting at a certain level in one episode of a multi-episode game. The city will trade those goods for the price set in the continuation mission.

Free workers: When you set a hunter's tent to 'not working' after the hunters have left, they will still hunt and return prey, without labour costs. The same technique may work with other buildings

Teleporting: When a cart pusher making a delivery has no road connection back to his home building, he will disappear upon delivery. A new cartpusher may be spawned immediately afterwards, as if he teleported home. (may also apply to other walkers)
