Contest 158: Lutetia (a Caesar 4 Beauty Contest)

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 158: Lutetia. This is a Caesar 4 contest, and should only be played with Caesar 4 with the latest patch. Check the HeavenGames site for the latest version. Use the links below to download the starting positions:

Lutetia English(Normal)
files are in .zip format

Lutetia (French Language files)
files are in .zip format

Lutetia (German Language files)
files are in .zip format

Procedure for extracting files-

The zip file will contain a number of files (this can vary depending on the scenario). Firstly, the file with the extension c4s should be extracted to the directory Saved Games in your C4 installation

   (Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Saved Games).

The remaining files should be extracted to the directory Scenarios

   (Default location C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar4\Data\Scenarios).

If you are running Vista, when you download any C4 files, they are always, by default, put in Virtual store with Vista:

   C:\Users\Name-of-user\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar IV\Data

You have to copy or move the files to the following folders, which are, by default:

   C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar IV\Data\Saved Games for c4s. files and

C:\Program Files\Sierra\Caesar IV\Data\Scenarios for all the other files

(Thanks to schwartzhorse for the Vista instructions!)

You start the save from the Main Menu in C4, selecting "Load Save." The save "Lutetia" should appear in the list. It is not necessary to alter game difficulty.

French forum thread is here.

Background Story:

Following their crushing defeat by Caesar's legions in 52 BC, the Parisii tribe of Loukteich prefer to destroy the bridges and to burn their city rather than to let the Romans have it, before fleeing into the countryside. This destruction has allowed the Roman conquerors to rebuild the city according to their own ideals, allowing the new city having greater resemblance to Rome.

Your task, Governor, will be to construct a city to compete in beauty, majesty and size with Rome, a city that will some day become universaly known as one of the greatest in the world, both by the magnificence of its housing and architecture, and by the multitude of cultural and festive offerings within its walls.

You have been granted starting funds commensurate with the standard of city expected of you. Rome's legions continue to occupy the nearby area, so there is no likelihood you will face any military threat. You will need to send Caesar regular shipments of the area's produce in order to maintain your favour with Rome. Caesar's envoys are currently conducting negotiations with trade cities near and far, and it is expected you will have trade opportunities open to you in the very near future.
