Contest 154: Library, (A Population Contest for Cleopatra)

This is a Cleopatra game, you must use Cleopatra to play!

To download the mission, simply click the appropriate link. The file you receive will be in a zipped format. After downloading, decompress the file (using, e.g. PowerArchiver or Winzip). You can get Winzip free from their website at www.winzip.com.

Please make sure you play the game from the start at the correct level of difficulty. Select Options, Difficulty and check it. If necessary adjust the difficulty, select new game and reselect the The Battle of Salamis' saved game. Now you can play.

The Story

Dear friend, you know of my project to build a unique city decicated to learning. My engineers have been busy for the last ten years preparing a site for this city. They have made a lake off the side of the Nile and filled it with fish. They have leveled the ground and dug the good soil out of the flood plain and spread this out over the ground to make it the most fertile meadow land in all Egypt.

I am offering you the opportunity of a lifetime to go to this site and build me a great Library to house all the collected wisdom of the ages. It must be a most beautiful building. I have commanded the finest marble to be made avaliable to you. I will also provide you with generous funds and trade opportunites to ensure you don't run short of funds to complete this task.

You are also to house all the great scholars from the whole Kingdom in very fine houses so they can study and learn to their hearts content. Provide everything for them except luxury so they don't get too soft. You have ten years for this task.

Rules:

WC1 Number of Fancy Residences according to ratings screen
WC2 Population
WC3 Treasury

CC1 At least one Fancy Residence in your city
CC2 Build and complete the Alexandrian Library
CC3 Save in December 10AD

The population requirement of 99,999 is just to prevent any early victory screen.

Designer's Advice

This contest can only be played with Cleopatra.

I have always thought Alexandras Library to be the finest monument from all the city builders. I just had to make my first ever Cleopatra contest all about it and include it in your city requirements. I love watching it being built. I've had a lot of fun testing this contest and I hope you will also enjoy playing it.
