Story

Well, Caesar has sent me to give you your mission. Between ourselves, he really doesn't think you will make it back from this one but you will still go out there for the glory of Rome. You may have heard of the story about the legend of the Blue Marble. Caesar thinks that there must be some truth to the story and he wants some. As you know its supposed to be deep in the black forest, many miles from the sea. Caesar has decreed that if you do in fact find some, you will be richly rewarded for it. The price it will bring if you can get any to the sea to trade it would far exceed any price anyone has ever sold marble for before.

You will meet with much opposition once the Hun realizes you are on his patch looking around. Try not to anger Caesar or he may send his troops after you. This is not a walk in the park but a serious quest for the glory of Rome. Sadly I have to inform you that your beloved lions will not handle the climate there. You will just have to manage with what you have.

There is also a legend of a superb Coliseum hidden in the hills somewhere. If you can find this, I think you will be able to attract gladiators from all parts of the empire to fight for you there. And since Caesar isn't going to allow you to build any Roman forts you may be able to use the best gladiators as soldiers in some old forts that are supposed to already exist there as well.

And Caesar expects you to maintain a small city there as well. He doesn't expect you just to rush in and grab some marble and rush out again. These barbarians must realise that Rome will not be scared by their futile attempts to remove us from this region.

In many ways this sounds like a most romantic adventure, looking for lost marble mines, lost Coliseums and lost forts. It's a shame you probably won't make it back to Rome.

Rules

Completion Criteria:
Must be saved before the time runs out, at the latest when the calendar says 1 month to go.
Population must be at least 400 at time of your save.
The Coliseum must be still standing at time of your save.

No other CC, any save with 400 population and a standing coliseum is a valid entry.
You can save in 1 AD and submit if you wish.

Winning Criteria:
WC1 Survival time
WC2 Number of soldiers (As stated by military adviser)
WC3 Marble stored in warehouses (As stated by industry adviser)

Difference between hard and easy is more startup and rescue money for easy.

Designer's Notes

This is supposed to be hard. You are not expected to make it to the end. The fun is wondering just how far other players will make it. And how much you need to do on WC2 in case they get to the same month as you. Don't neglect WC3 as it may come into it as well. Your primary aim is however to survive as long as possible. Save often (every month is recommended), once you feel like you are in trouble. Check your population to that it is at least 400 before you submit your entry.

The Blue Marble is a Caesar III contest map. It was designed by Caesar Clifford and was tested by Goosquad and Naughite. Have fun.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, July 2nd. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
