Contest 86: Islands, a Caesar 3 Contest

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 86:Islands. This is a Caesar 3 contest, and should only be played with Caesar 3 V1.0.1.0. Use the links below to download the starting positions:

Islands (Hard Difficulty)
Islands (Easy Difficulty)
files are in .zip format

After downloading, PC players should open the archive with a suitable programme (e.g. Winzip), and then extract the contents to the directory in which which C3.exe is located (by default C:\Sierra\Caesar3). Macintosh players, for whom the procedure of installing contest files is a little more complicated, can find detailed instructions here. If you have any problems, please ask in the Forum.

Please take note that the CBC rules no longer allow free roads and material changes either.

Story

I have called you in here to tell you of a dream I had last night. I soared as a bird high above the land and the sea. It was quite scary for a while but then I found I enjoyed it. I saw a new sea with many islands and a great island set in the middle of them. It seemed very fertile and I desired to settle there. But I couldn't see any way to reach this island. Then I saw from the air that the islands seemed to be numbered. I wondered if you followed the numbers with bridges whether or not you would be able to reach the main island.

I wish you to find out for me. Take those most skilled in bridge building as it was a vast sea. You also have
ten years to earn as much money as you can for me. Make sure your people are reasonably prosperous as it was a nice place to live and I don't want your reputation as a slave driver to follow you to your next assignment. I have decreed that wages and taxes cannot be changed throughout the Empire for the next ten years. Be sure you do not change them!

Rules

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

  • Prosperity Rating of 36 or more
  • Saved in Dec 9AD (When months left are equal to one)

Winning Criteria:

  • WC1:Most money in city vaults

  • WC2:Highest Population. (Second will only be used if a tie for first)

Designer's Notes:

Wages and taxes are not to change at any time. Wages are set at 2 Dn above Rome and must remain there. You may adjust your personal salary as much as you like and send gifts to Caesar as you please.
You do not have to send requests if you don't want to.

The Ratings page has a population goal of 99,999. This should be ignored and is only present to stop someone from winning early. You may have any population you like and your favor, peace and culture ratings may be any figure you wish.

The difference between hard and easy is more starting money for easy.
This is primarly meant to be a trading mission which is why taxes and wages can't be changed.
You can still earn money from taxes but maximising trading will determine how well you do.

The Islands was designed by Caesar Clifford and beta tested by Henrium.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday January 29th, 2006. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
