Welcome to Contest 80: Battle of the Titans - Pharaoh. This is the Pharaoh contest, but it can also be played with Cleopatra. You must have the latest versions installed in order to play this contest. The link to the patches is on our rules page. Use the links below to download the starting positions:

Battle of the Titans, 2 Normal
file is in zip format

After downloading, PC players should open the archive with a suitable programme (e.g. Winzip) Then place the unzipped file in your family save directory (in the Pharaoh root directory, Save, [YourFamilyName]; by default C:\Sierra\Pharaoh\Save\[YourFamilyName]\).

To play the game, start Pharaoh, go to your family, and select "Load Saved Game". You will find Battle of the Titans Normal. It should be preset at the appropriate difficulty level.

Please make sure you play the game from the start at the correct level of difficulty. Select Options, Difficulty and check it. If necessary adjust the difficulty, select new game and reselect the Mansion to Ptah saved game. Now you can play.

All players are advised to peruse the remainder of the contest pages (links to which can be found at the foot of the page), as well as the General Rules and Pharaoh/Cleopatra game features.

Story

Bad news has arrived from Djedu; an army of ferocious seapeople invaded the city and wiped out the small garrison that protected the village. The city itself has not been conquered yet, but they are cut off from the rest of the empire and are in dire need of our help. Pharaoh Nitiqret has called on you, as you are his most talented Nomarch. You must go to the city with an army of infantry soldiers and deal with the seapeople, so the city can grow and thrive again. During the battle the commander of the garrison, Khendjer, was killed during a heroic attempt to destroy the enemy transport ships. This prevented the dropping of seapeople soldiers within the city. As a reminder of this event and as a tribute to this commander Nitiqret wants you to build him a pyramid. Finish it as quickly as you can so the funeral arrangements for this hero can be completed.

Designer's Notes

YThis contest will test all your skills, including your ability to build a stable city. Therefore you must submit your saved game before you reach the victory screen. The latest time that is allowed for your save is the time at which the overseer of your construction site reports that more then 50 stone are still required to finish the monument. After opening your save at 10% game speed and then immediately pause it, the judges must be able to verify this. If less then 50 stone are needed for completion your entry is invalid.

The amount of profit you made in one year will be established by looking at the financial report of your saved game, the amount will be taken from the left column (= result last year).

During the contest you will get requests for goods from Jericho, complying will result in a gift of wood. This is the only way to get wood, which you for instance will need for the construction of the pyramid.
The other trade cities will also send you regular request for goods; failing to comply makes them unhappy and results in a suspension of the trading. Finally, you will also get requests from the Pharaoh, complying with his demands results in a raise of your Kingdom Rating.

It is not allowed to send gifts to the Pharaoh in order to raise your Kingdom Rating.

A decrease of the price of beer at the end of each year is a reminder to make your annual save, you may be asked to provide these saves at the end of the contest.
It is allowed to submit multiple entries, but only the last entry (according to time of submission) is scored.

During free-run the judge will accept all gifts and fulfil all requests (if possible). Other messages will be ignored. Please indicate in your remarks when submitting how long it will take to reach the victory screen. If, after several years of free-run, the judge feels reaching victory is unlikely (based on design and progress) he will call the entry invalid and notify the player

This scenario was Designed by Henrium and tested by slcha and kach.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, Sunday 2nd October, 2005. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
