Contest 78: Battle of the Titans - Zeus

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 78: Battle of the Titans - Zeus. This is a Zeus contest, and may be played with Zeus V1.1 or Poseidon V2.1. Use the link below to download the starting positions

Battle of the Titans - Zeus - Normal/hero
file is in zip format

After downloading, players should run the winzip. When prompted, choose to extract the archive to the directory in which Zeus.exe is located (by default C:\Impressions Games\Zeus\save\).

Please make sure you play the game from the start at the correct level of difficulty. Please select Hero (Normal) as per your level on the adventure loading screen.

Story

Rumour on the Olympus has it that you think you are the greatest hero of all time. Therefor three gods decided to put you to the test. You will have to go to Colchis and deal with the challenges laid before you. Most important thing you will have to do is kill all three monsters that reside in a small valley. The faster you can accomplish this mission the better. But being a hero is not only about killing monsters, you will also have to show your economic skills by producing oil and sculptures. Your diplomatic skills will also be tested, as your Rival Pergamum is very greedy and will demand goods on a regular basis. He gets angry easily and will invade your city without hesitation should you fail to comply. And last but not least you should show your skills as a designer and build a city that runs on its own and can deal with problems even without your intervention.

Rules

This contest must be played at Hero (Normal) difficulty.

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

  • One Monster must be slain.
  • Save the game just before you get the message that the second monster is slain
  • The saved game must result in a victory screen (3 monsters slain) when continued in free run.

The valid entries will then be separated according to the following winning criteria:

1. Time in months to kill Scylla score: 100 * fastest time of all entries / players time
2. Time in months to kill Hector score: 100 * fastest time of all entries / players time
3. Time in months to kill Dragon score: 100 * fastest time of all entries / players time
4. Highest amount of oil made score: 100 * players amount / highest amount of all
5. Highest amount of sculptures made score: 100 * players amount / highest amount of all

This is a team competition; the score of each team will be established by taking the average score of all team members that have submitted a valid entry. The team with the highest average score wins.

Designer's Notes

This contest will test all your skills, including your ability to build a stable city. Therefor you must submit your saved game before you reach the victory screen. The latest time that is allowed for your save is immediately before you get the message that a second monster has been slain. After opening your save this message should be the first to appear (or be part of the set of messages that appear). If already more then one “monster-is-slain” message is present at the time of save, your entry is invalid.

The highest amount of goods you made in one year will be established by running your save to the victory screen and record the best amount from this screen. The time needed to kill a monster will be established by using the date of the “monster-is-slain” message. If the victory screen appears before the third “monster-is-slain” message appears the date of the victory screen will be taken to establish the time.

During the contest you will get annual requests for wine from Pergamum. This is a reminder to make your annual save. Failing to comply with these requests will result in an invasion. The invasion will always take place on the same place, near the marble quarry. Note that the military strength of Pergamum is set to 6, which means it can not be conquered.

Your vassal will request sculptures from time to time. If you want to prevent him rebelling you better give in to his requests. Your vassal is also the only source of wheat (you will get 4 sheaves of wheat as tribute every year). Spend it wisely!

In order to see how you progress, the three gods (Apollo, Ares and Aphrodite) that have put up this challenge for you will visit your city at some time. Be prepared for them!

Other gods will ask you to go on a quest. If you comply with these requests an event will take place which brings you a certain advantage (might be a change of city status on worldmap or opening up certain areas of the map that are closed to you at the start). A similar effect can be seen as a result of killing a monster.

It is not allowed to request/demand/raid goods from a city that it doesn’t trade with you.

It is allowed to submit multiple entries, but only the last entry (according to time of submission) is scored.

During free-run the judge will accept all gifts, fulfil all requests from your vassal (if possible), refuse all demands from your rival, call for a hero (if city is worthy of him), but he won’t send him on a quest. Other messages will be ignored. Please indicate in your remarks when submitting how long it will take to reach the victory screen. If you want the judge to respond in another way then described here, please also add this to the remarks when submitting. If, after several years of free-run, the judge feels reaching victory is unlikely (based on design and progress) he will call the entry invalid and notify the player.

This contest can be played with either Zeus or Poseidon. Note that you should only use one of these two games to play. Playing saves from one game in the other game may result in strange anomalies and is therefor forbidden. When submitting your save please indicate whether it is played in Zeus or Poseidon in the naming of the file; for example Henrium_BattleZeus_Hero_1.zip when played in Zeus or Henrium_BattlePoseidon_Hero_1.zip when played with Poseidon. This to prevent anomalies appearing during the free run part of the contest.

In this competition it is allowed to discuss the contest with your team mates, however all communication must go through the team forum. No information may be exchanged outside the forum, so no emails, private chats, etc. It is also not allowed to share saved games, you may of course describe certain things on the map or housing block layouts or refer to other forums/sites.

This contest is designed by Henrium and betatested by Slcha.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, June 19th. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
