StoryKhufu's son and successor, Djedefre, is most well known for abandoning the royal cemeteries of Giza and Saqqara and choosing for his pyramid the site of Abu Rowash, about 7km north of his father's pyramid, However, according to hieroglyphic inscriptions found in Khufu's boat pits it appears that Khufu died a little earlier than was expected and Djedefre was tasked, as was custom, with completing his father's pyramid complex. To do this Djedefre dug 7 boat pits beside his father's pyramid and included in at least two of them large dismantled cedar barges. These barges, it is believed, were used by the dead king to transport his ka for unification with his father, Re. While Khufu was the first king of Egypt to associate himseif with the sun god, it is Djedefre who was first to include the epithet "son of Re" in his name and complete the process. With such obvious examples of pious devotion, he was only too happy to supply his dead father with the means by which his ka would reunify with Re. The 70 days needed to complete Khufu's mummification are nearing an end. As Djedefre's vizier you are tasked with supplying your king with the cedar barges needed to complete the pyramid complex of Khnum-Khufu / Horus Medjedu before his physical body dies and his ka seeks his father.
