Contest 62: The Boat Race, a Zeus Speed Contest

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 62: The Boat Race. This is a Zeus contest, and should only be played with the latest version of Zeus. Use the links below to download the starting positions:

The Boat Race (Titan Difficulty)
The Boat Race (Mortal Difficulty)
files are in an executable format

After downloading, players should run the executable, and follow the on screen instructions. When prompted, choose to extract the archive to the directory in which Zeus.exe is located (by default C:\Impressions Games\Zeus).

Story

"Times are hard in Greece. Although the long war with the Persians is finally at an end, hunger and disease have taken their toll. The people are weary and dispirited.

What better way to lift their spirits than with a competition? A large regatta is to be held in Athens, to find the greatest oarsmen in the land. Many of your citizens wish to participate, but the lack of suitable training boats puts them at a large disadvantage.

To ensure the success of your athletes, you must build four new boats, and quickly!"

The Boat Race is a speed contest with a twist (or two, or three...), and will test your ability to manage space, the Gods, and the elements. Can you leave your opponents feeling (dark or light) blue?"

Rules

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

  • Support 4 Triremes
  • City not in debt at time of completion

The valid entries will then be separated according to the following winning criteria:

  1. Speed (fastest time wins)
  2. Population

The second winning criterion will only be used to separate entries that are not split by the first winning criterion.

Designer's Notes

A rise in the price of carrots is scripted to occur every December, as a reminder to make your annual save.

The contest maps feature an extra episode goal (1 person in Residence or better). This is purely to block premature victory and should be ignored.

There are no scheduled invasions, but there are one or two 'surprises'.

Remember, if all else fails, seek divine inspiration!

This map was designed by Caesar Alan and beta-tested by Dillon Blake.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Sunday, April 25th. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
