Contest 60: The Brother, A Zeus Military Contest

Welcome to the contest pages for Contest 60: The Brother. This is a Zeus contest, and may be played with Zeus V1.1 or Poseidon V2.1. Use the links below to download the starting positions

The Brother (all difficulties)
file is in exe format
The Brother (all difficulties)
files are in a zip format

After downloading, players should run the winzip. When prompted, choose to extract the archive to the directory in which Zeus.exe is located (by default C:\Impressions Games\Zeus\save\).

Please make sure you play the game from the start at the correct level of difficulty, especially since the file is the same for both difficulties. Please select Mortal (Easy) or Titan (Hard) as per your level on the adventure loading screen.

Story

The mighty city of Scyros was led by its mighty king Scyrius. As everything good, this eventually ended. The king died and gave the kingdom to his eldest child, your big brother, Ctesias. Your father was a good man, unlike your brother...

Your brother conquered all his allied cities in Greece. His army was not strong enough to leave Greece, and some foreign people might be willing to help you... But do hurry to build your own army. Ctesias has invested most of his money in building a stronger military, and his new vassals are willing to help him.

It's vital for you to have some support even from the gods. Ctesias has foolishly committed a great crime against the gods, and Zeus always punishes the whole family...

The mainland has completely been occupied by your brother, but the islands offer an oportunity of freedom...

Rules

All entries must meet the following completion criteria at the time of submission:

  • You must rule Scyros
  • You must not be a vassal yourself
  • The save must be made in Jan 490 BC, so you must survive 10 years

The valid entries will then be separated according to the following winning criteria:

1. Number of vassals (highest wins)
2. Amount of elite soldiers (highest wins)
3. Treasury (highest wins)
4. The second and third winning criteria will only be used if the first one
produces a tie.

For example, the following entries would be ranked in this order:

4 vassals, 12 elite soldiers, 7746 Drachmae.
3 vassals, 51 elite soldiers, 20540 Drachmae.
3 vassals, 51 elite soldiers, 10825 Drachmae

Designer's Notes

Remember to save your game every January. These saved games should not be submitted with your entry, but must be made available should we request them during judging. An increase in the price of sculpture (a non-tradeable commodity) is scripted to occur every December as a reminder.

When you open the game, one of the goals might say "Rule Amphipolis". It should say "Rule Scyros". This is caused by a bug and is unintentional.

It is vital that you kill the attackers from enemy cities fast, because Zeus and Ares usually attack during invasions. And when Athena promises to help, you should do all you can to help her in return...

Scyros becomes conquerable only six months before the end, so you might not have a chance for multiple attack waves. Prepare to launch one massive invasion, and use enough forces to conquer the city with one try. Try to build as big city as you can. All extra rabble will come in handy sooner than you think... Good luck and have fun!

The Brother was created by Ticaios, and beta tested by Aditya and YouKnowWho.

This contest will close at 11PM EST (US), on Tuesday, November 30th. Please note the date!!!!

This contest has ended.
