Grain: The Story
Since the sad demise of Cleopatra many years ago, Egypt has been a major
source of grain throughout the Roman Empire.
The Roman Emperor, Claudius, is now planning the expansion of the Roman
Empire and the invasion of Britannia.
His army commander, Aulus Plautius, has sent word that he requires a
huge stock of grain to feed his army because he expects it to be a long
and arduous campaign. The Britons are known to be tough and hardened warriors.
Your task, then, is to provide all the grain he needs as quickly as possible,
ready to be delivered to the Roman army as they assemble on the Gallic
coast.
Unfortunately the Romans are hard taskmasters; they will allow you to
take your own servant to attend your personal needs, but only 400 more
people to complete this task. Some of these people, fortunately, are accomplished
brick makers and potters; they may be used, therefore, whenever possible,
to earn a little money to avoid the city being in debt when the grain
is ready.
There is no time to spare; you should begin your mission immediately.
