Grain: Contest Rules & Designer's Advice

First, competitors are reminded that the normal CBC Contest Rules (except as stated below) apply to this contest. Competitors are also advised to peruse the list of Pharaoh/Cleopatra game features to pick up some useful tips.

Please note that the 'overlapping farms' special feature is not allowed in this game.

The mission goals are:

1: At least 20,000 (twenty thousand) units of grain in storage yards
(As recorded by the Overseer of Commerce)

2: No more than 402 people in your city at any time in the mission.
(Please see the Designer's Special Advice section below)

3: The city must not be in debt at completion.

The valid entries will then be ranked according to the following winning criteria:

1: The fastest time

2: The highest amount of money in the city vaults at completion

The second criterion is only applicable if the first criterion produces a tie.

Designer's advice:

This is a Pharaoh game; it can be played with Pharaoh or Cleopatra. The start date is 40AD. It is a speed mission; you should submit your game as soon as you have completed all the mission goals.

You are also required to make an annual save every December. You will get a message informing you of an increase in the price of granite (which plays no part in the game) as a reminder to make this save. You should not submit these annual saves with your entry, but should make them available upon request.

You must play the mission at the correct level of difficulty. There are differences in the easy and hard versions of the game; for example in the easy version, the flood plain is marginally larger and the start up money is greater.

Designer's special advice:

There are no winning Culture, Prosperity, Monument or Kingdom Ratings for this mission.

A 'winning' condition has been set of 403 people in the city, in order to limit the maximum number of people in your city to 402 people.

If you go over this 402 limit you will see the 'Victory' screen, which will mean that you have LOST THE MISSION. You will have to restart or return to an earlier saved game.

If you see the 'Victory' screen and elect to keep playing for two or five years and submit an entry with the resulting legend indicating that:

"You have already won this mission and have elected to continue playing"
your entry will be VOID.

Please be absolutely sure you understand this criterion.
